Tempered Glass

Tempered glass or toughened glass is a type of safety glass processed by heat-treating glass is taking annealed glass, cutting it to its desired size, transferring the glass to a furnace and heating it to approximately 650°C。 Once at this temperature, the glass exits the furnace and is then rapidly cooled, or quenched. Air is blown onto the glass surface on both sides simultaneously. This cooling process creates a state of high compression at the glass surfaces while the central core of the glass is in a compensating tension.,which induce compressive stresses of 11000 to 20000 psi on the surface and edge compression of not less than 9700 psi.The only physical characteristics of the glass that change are the improved strength and resistance to thermal stress and shock.Full tempered glass is 4 or 5 times stronger than annealed glass with the same thickness.

Heat strengthened glass is produced similarly to full tempered glass, which inducing a surface compression of 6000 to 9000 psi. Heat-Strenghened glass is appromixmately twice as strong  as annealed glass with significantly greater resistance to thermal stress when compared to annealed glass of equal thickness. Heat-Strengthened glass is not considered a safety glass product as defined by the above mentioned glass standards, and typically breaks into larger pieces than tempered glass.

Heat Soaking treatment is a quality control process carried out on the tempered safety glass which exposes nickel sulfide(NiS) inclusions in tempered glass before the glass reaches the site. It put the tempered glass inside a charmber and raising the temperature to approximately 290°C to accelerate the nickel sulfide expansion. During this process glass containing nickel sulfide inclusions will break inside the heat soaking chamber, significantly reduces the risk of breakage of installed tempered glass from sopntaneous fracture. for building owners, develpers and specifiers, heat soaked treatment offers a number of benefits. Heat Soaked tempered safety glass is more expensivethan ordinary tempered glass because of the additional processing. Heat Soaking process doesn’t guarantee there will be no spontaneous breakage after glazing, it is a precautionary method for glass used in areas where safety from glass fallout is a concern and access to replacement panes is difficult.

●The sizes of tempered glass can be from 5x5mm to 3300x18000mm.

●The thickness of tempered glass is from 2mmto 19mm a

●The glass can be flat and curved.
